Day 1 Arrival Kigali international Airport
You’ll be met at the airport and escorted by private car to your accommodation.
With its interesting architecture, busy streets, meandering boulevards, and green hillsides, Kigali is known as one of the most attractive cities in Africa.
Your Lightfoot Travel Designer will be able to advise on activities and restaurants prior to departure.
Day 2 Akagera National Park
This morning you’ll be privately escorted by car to Akagera National Park.
You’ll spend the new two days exploring Central Africa’s largest protected wetland and the last refuge for savannah-adapted species.
Enjoy morning and afternoon nature drives looking for elephant, zebra, giraffe, buffalo and more. Traverse rolling highlands woodlands, swamp-fringed lakes, and the wetlands of the Kagera River. Spot crocodiles and hippos in the park’s watery basins and see hundreds of bird species.
In the evening take a dip in the pool of your lodge and relax on the expansive viewing deck or by the fire.
Day 4 Volcanoes National Park
This morning you’ll be driven to Volcanoes National Park to see the region’s rare mountain gorillas.
Here you'll spend time monitoring the endangered mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat.
Away from the jungle, head on scenic hiking trails, visit the tomb of Dian Fossey and the Karisoke Research Centre, hike to the crater lake on Mount Bisoke, or treat yourself to a spa treatment.
Day 5 Volcanoes National Park
This morning you'll spend an hour monitoring the endangered mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat.
Afterwards you'll head away from the jungle to embark on scenic hiking trails. This is your chance to visit the tomb of Dian Fossey and the Karisoke Research Centre, hike to the crater lake on Mount Bisoke, or treat yourself to a spa treatment.
Day 7 Nyungwe Forest National Park
Today you’ll be driven to Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of Africa’s most ancient forests and the home of Rwanda’s sole remaining chimpanzee population.
Spend time spotting colobus monkeys and chimpanzees, hiking the network of trails through lush rainforest and spotting colourful birdlife. Don’t miss the Canopy Walk which offers impressive views of the forest.
Day 9 Departure
Today you’ll be escorted by car to the airport for your onward journey.
